Keys in one hand and organic pastries in the other, he starts his SUV with the click of a button as he dashes through the frigid air.
Gratitude is the wine for the soul. Go on. Get drunk.
I turn the corner. Glancing at the time glowing in the predawn light, I slow my fuzzy-booted pace.
Wherever you stand, be the soul of that place.
A small burst of warm cinnamon air escapes the store reaching the makeshift cardboard fort on the sidewalk.ย
SUV Guy: “I did not give you a dirty look.”
The moon stays bright when it doesn’t avoid the night.
Homeless Guy: “You did! You looked right at me– ”
The wound is the place where the light enters you.
SUV Guy: “I wasn’t looking at you. I have my own problems– ”
Don’t you know yet? It is your light that lights the world.
Crossing the threshold of pine and holly, the scent of Christmas wraps me in memories of you.
When you seek love with all your heart you shall find its echo in the universe.

_________
Jalal al-Din Rumi, known as Rumi as well as by the honorific Mawlana (1207-1273), was a Sufi mystic and poet in the Persian language. He also wrote in Arabic as well as Turkish and Greek, to a lesser extent. Rumi’s writing and spiritual leadership influenced the Indian subcontinent and by the end of the 20th century his poetry was circulated worldwide.

I found this super original – I like how you used a mix of quotes and your own words. Thanks for sharing!

I’m so glad you’re on the road to recovery and that your injuries didn’t cause permanent damage — that’s a relief. Hank is making up his wishlist. I have a feeling it will include mealworms. ๐

Mealworms and a lady friend? My husband been so helpful and thoughtful. We celebrated 16 years last month, we bought another wedding ring. Once I got Lyme my body is bigger and my hands are so swollen. Weโve bought 4-5 rings and then they no longer fit. I hope after the swelling from the surgery wrist I can wear my new one. Take care and be safe, crazy this time of year. Hugs.

Iโm opening an online store and very behind. When I work to hard it hurts my wrist and arm more. My husband doesnโt understand I only know when to stop is when I start hurting.I have another Vertigo treatment which includes two days of the collar. I didnโt know that having a bad concussion could make the rocks in your ear off balance. So when someone said I had rocks in my head they were right.

Nice cardboard fort imagery – and I like that gratitude = wine for the soul too, all the more reason to be grateful!

Thanks, Geoff. I tried to capture the scene and hope I did it justice. Rumi really had a way with words, didn’t he.
